Josef Chromy
Josef Chromy vineyard and new processing and tasting facility are located in Relbia 10 km from Launceston. The new processing facility sits beside a lake set in amongst the rolling hills and many acres of ripening grapes. Bullock Consulting set about designing the processing facility with the design of the facility meeting at the cross roads between providing functional spaces for grape processing and wine production and sculpting a form that describes fine wine. Skillion roofs sit atop columns with delicately detailed column capitals providing both open air cover for the processing plant and the basis for the cool room component and support services spine; these details flow through the complex providing a unique form for the facility. Laboratories, offices, amenities and a highly detailed first floor tasting room have been located in the heart of the processing facility with the tasting room being so located with commanding views both over the picturesque lake and the production area.
Bullock Consulting’s palate of materials for the building was a combination of stainless steel, colourbond panelling with minimal colour to enhance the forms and create a wine experience that the staff and visitors will remember for years to come.
